Optical Illusions

2014

Inspiration & Development

The concept is rooted in optical phenomena — the manipulation of light through reflection, refraction, and diffusion. Inspired by kaleidoscopic imagery, northern lights, prisms, halos, and auras, the design narrative explores how light behaves when fragmented and redirected.

The diamond shape, functions as a structural and visual metaphor for this fragmentation. Its faceted geometry suggests infinite repetition, echoing the internal mirrors of a kaleidoscope that multiply form and color.

Faceted glass elements with iridescent backings simulate prismatic light dispersion, creating dynamic colour shifts depending on angle and movement, capturing and echoing ambient light to reinforce the illusion of continual transformation.
